In this micro-credential, students will learn how to communicate effectively with Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems by designing, structuring and refining prompts that produce accurate, relevant and high-quality outputs. Students will explore fundamental and advanced prompt engineering techniques, including role-based prompting, contextual prompting, few-shot learning and iterative refinement, to improve the performance of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Gemini. Through practical activities, students will learn how to provide clear instructions, establish context, define output formats and evaluate AI-generated responses to solve real-world business challenges. They will also explore how prompt engineering can enhance creativity, research, problem-solving, content development and workplace productivity while recognising the importance of critical thinking, human oversight and responsible AI use.
